5 Saigon Highlights

2/3/2016

5 saigon highlights
Whether it's ancient or modern history, Vietnam is a country full of memories and Ho Chi Minh A.K.A. Saigon has often been at the center of it.
If you happen to stop by or visit the city for a couple of days, no doubt the travel agents will try to convince you to do the Cu Chi tunnels or Mekong Delta tours. Based on independent reviews, some people loved them, some didn't, so really just make a decision based on your instinct.

During our visit, we decided to not do the tunnels or the delta. Instead, we walked extensively around town, interacted with the locals and discovered as much as we could in the given time.
This is a list of highlights chosen among the various activities, museums and restaurants that we experienced.

War remnants Museum

War Remnants Museum of Saigon
From big to small, lots of painful but not-to-be-forgotten memories are displayed at the Saigon War Museum
Whether you are a history buff or not, if you are a human being, this museum is really worth a visit to learn more about a history that affected millions around the world. The highlight of our visit to the city, this museum raises a lot of questions about humans and even ourselves.

Operating hours: Every day 7.30 AM - 12.00 and 1.00 PM - 5.00 PM.

Golden Dragon water puppet show

Golden Dragon Water Puppet Show Saigon
Souvenirs of the Golden Dragon Puppet Show
Consisting of 17 short episodes, and 3 shows per day, this is a great way to experience traditional Vietnamese culture.
We were able to book a show for the next hour, however, please note that if you prefer seating closer to the stage, then it's better to book a day in advance.

Shows are held every day at:
5.00 PM - 6.30 PM - 7.45 PM
Price at the time of publishing this article:
160,000 VND ($7.50)

Meet the residents

Shop keeper in Saigon
We loved meeting the locals!
Our experience with Saigoneers has been pretty good. We found them to be people with a great sense of humor, like the gentleman below who owned a shop of mannequins and asked to be in the frame, when we wanted to photograph this odd golden boy.  Everywhere we went, we found someone who smiled, was ready to give us directions and appreciated our disastrous efforts to say basic things in Vietnamese, so for all of these reasons and more, the residents are a highlight of our visit to Saigon.

Coffe - Ca Phe

Saigon Coffee
Saigon coffee is a treat!
We heard about coffee in Vietnam before, but you never really realize what this really means until you are here. Naturally, as a coffee lover, I thought I had died and gone to heaven with all these coffee shops and type of coffees and blends. Whether you pick a coffee shop chain or an independent one, I have now realized that it's physically impossible to drink a bad cup of coffee in Vietnam.

Hoa Tuc

A friend who has lived in Saigon for a couple of years took us here for dinner, and to date, this is best best Vietnamese dinner we've had. On a Tuesday night the place was packed, so reservations are advised. We tried a selection of dishes, from fresh spring rolls to pork skewers and sauteed seabass. Everything was phenomenal, and we really mean it!

Oman is the hidden gem of the Arabian Gulf, and Muscat is much less sassy than Dubai or Abu Dhabi in the neighbouring United Arabs Emirates.  In Oman, life seems moving slower, the pace is relaxed, frankincense's aroma fills the streets as women shop in the souks and fishermen sell their fresh catch.

From the stunning coastline and inner mountainous desert and wadis to green forests and waterfalls, Oman is a country of unique multi-faced beauty, offering different settings, each with its magnificence.

In this article, we'll visit one of the most beautiful resorts in Oman, and we can tell you that very few places gave us the feeling we had when entering the  Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa in Muscat, Oman.

What would you say if we were to ask you:
where would you like to go in Brazil?
We are sure most people would answer they'd like to visit cities like Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Salvador as these are the most popular Brazilian travel destinations thanks to their famous carnivals, beaches and cultural hubs.

These cities are definitely worth the numbers of tourists visiting them every year, however, there is a lot more to Brazil than Rio or Sao Paulo or Salvador; how do we know this?

We know because we just spent 10 weeks roaming the country South to North and saw only a fraction of the immense and diverse place that Brazil is.

As children, one of the things that appealed to us were tree houses. Perhaps this is the result of human anthropology or of the sense of adventure that kids have.

What's great though, it's that today you can experience staying in tree houses in many places as part of glamping experiences.

However, there is one place that is far more than just a tree house.
