The long list of head turning venues in the UAE has a new addition: we are speaking about Rogo's at the recently opened in Yas Mall on Abu Dhabi's most famous island.
Rogo's doesn't have waiters taking your order or delivering your food and drinks; instead, you digitally select the menu from a Samsung tablet and then watch your food being delivered through intricate roller coaster tracks. Perhaps the fanciest meals on wheels that you've ever seen!

A LOOK INSIDE ROGO'S
The first thing that will capture your attention are the stainless steel tubes that create the rails on which your food is delivered. Among these, the highlight is the tornado roller coaster.
They whiz around the space against grey walls and a stripey floor. The modern and clinical look is softened and animated by touches of bright colors in the tableware, colorful neon lighting and some accent walls.

ROGO'S MENU - HOW TO ORDER

The order is processed digitally through a Samsung tablet.
It's fairly easy to navigate the menu via the touchscreen, but if needed, a waiter is always nearby to offer assistance.
Through the digital menu, you are not only able to view the regular information of what you order. but also what the final dish looks like in pictures. Once you choose, simply follow the instruction to select your food and drink and watch the fun delivery unravel before you.

A table can host several parties so you may end up sharing table with a different party, so to avoid confusion each order is color coordinated with individual tickets. The delivered food or drink will be placed in the container that will hold it safely as it makes its descent to you.
The menu presents a melange of international dishes and on recommendation of the staff we tried a few as follows:
STARTER
Crispy Coated Fried Shrimp
Thai Fish Cakes |
MAIN COURSE
Seafood Linguine
Grilled Chicken Quinoa Salad Rogo's Tornado Burger Thyme Crusted Salmon |
DESSERT
Upsidedown Blueberry Cheesecake
|
The overall food experience was positive, although it did not start too well with the shrimps. They were the first dish we tried and were so disappointing that it left us wondering whether we should expect the rest of the food alike. We are happy to say the journey quickly turned for the best, culminating with an excellent dessert.
Rogo's is definitely an entertaining culinary experience. It's great to see the food and drink travel around defying the laws of physics, however as a personal preference, we don't love the idea of food being served in pans. It just doesn't look right. It feels like you are eating leftovers from the night before. Perhaps Rogo's will find different containers to deliver the food in the future.
As far as the quality and taste go, most of what we tried was enjoyable, with the dessert holding a steady flag for the "WOW" flavor factor.
Expect the price to reflect what you are experiencing, but if you are after fun dining, particularly if you have children, then Rogo's without a doubt will answer your quest.
