Have you ever had one of those O M G moments that made you blurt out
Why did I not discover this before???
I had one of these moments recently when trying for the first time Bulletproof® Coffee. If you are a regular Simply Doozy reader you must know by now that at the Simply Doozy HQ we do love coffee.
And after that first home made cup I was hooked because this is not your average cup of Joe, this is possibly the dooziest cup you'll ever drink so let's find out WHAT IS Bulletproof Coffee and HOW TO MAKE IT.

What Is Bulletproof® Coffee?
Essentially it's a recipe.
It was invented by Dave Asprey, a Sillicon Valley investor and technology entrepreneur who spent a long time (20 years) and huge amount of money ($300,000) to find a way to upgrade himself resulting in creating the idea of being Bulletproof which as quoted on the Bulletproof Exec website is :
...the state of high performance where you take control of and improve your biochemistry, your body, and your mind so they work in unison, helping you execute at levels far beyond what you’d expect, without burning out, getting sick, or allowing stress to control your decisions.
The ingredients are:
THE IMPORTANCE OF USING THE RIGHT INGREDIENTS
Something that Dave Asprey stresses is the use of right ingredients and we agree. In developing his idea and brand he invested in creating his own range of top coffee and the brain octane oil as well as MCT oil and other products.
Another important part of these ingredients is the butter. It must be butter produced by grass-fed cows. The reason for using grass-fed butter is because:
1. it blends better
2. doesn't taste as good
3. non-grass-fed butters have different types of fats
4. it optimizes your cholesterol
If you wonder how to find grass-fed butter there are a few brands that you can look up like the Irish Kerrygold, the Kiwi Anchor butter (a brand I've used for years and totally love), Grass-fed Organic Ghee. Organic Valley Pasture butter, the German Allgau butter, the Icelandic Smjor butter and the Americans Humboldt creamery butter and Kalona Supernatural butter.
Other places where you can find it are organic food stores like Whole Foods and farmers markets.
How do you spot grass-fed butter?
From its color. Grass-fed butter is yellow. Although you always best check the packaging to ensure.
It's hard to find butter that is 100% grass-fed unless you live in one of the rare countries that have green pastures all year round, but most of the brands mentioned above, offer a product that is made from cows who are grass-fed at least 10 months of the year and if the product is in addition certified organic, then there's the added bonus that if the cows are fed any grain at all at least those grains are non-GMO.

How to make Bulletproof® Coffee?
Making Bulletproof® Coffee is very easy and shouldn't take you more than 7-8 minutes including brewing time.
How I made mine
As I'm currently travelling around Latin America and don't have a fixed address, I cannot try out Dave Asprey's products (though at some point I will), so I have to make do with what I can find, but, the great news is that I find myself in Brasil at the moment and Brasil is well known to have among other things, some of the most amazing coffee in the whole world.
I used Cafe Caboclo, a medium roasted and finely grounded coffee, from one of the most traditional coffee brands in Brazil.
For the oil, the recipe would have you using MCT oil, but I used Pure Organic Coconut Oil because although MCT oil is said to be 6X more effective than Coconut oil, it's a manufactured oil and I prefer to stick to natural ingredients as much as I can.
Finding the butter was the most difficult, mainly because I am on an island at the moment, 25 Km out of the main town area, so product ranges are limited, but I got the best I could find in the shops and that looked as yellow as I could find and that happened to be the gourmet Aviacao Butter (note that this link is only to show you the brand, do not buy butter with salt to make the coffee drink!).

The taste was sublime. It's really like using cream instead of milk in your coffee and the coconut oil notes coming through are perfectly sweetening the coffee's aroma.
I drunk it about 6 hours ago, and I must say my mind and body have been super alert and focused and I haven't even felt the need to grab a snack to recharge my energy as I usually feel doing mid afternoon. So, for me this is definitely a winner and from tomorrow is going to replace my breakfast drink in my morning routine.
