We hear it everywhere, to the point that's at times nauseating: Eat your 5-a-day. What does that mean? It means that the recommended portion for a healthy lifestyle is to consume 5 different portions of fruits & vegetables each day to keep your body stashed with the necessary ingredients. I like both fruits and vegetables, but for how much I make effort I admit I don't consume 5 different ones every day. So I came up with a solution that hopefully will help you too.
I love smoothies
Smoothies for me are a comfort food. They bring me back to my childhood days where my grandmother would make me a smoothie every afternoon with whatever fresh fruits she had at home, so for me it's easy to be convinced to have a smoothie and that's my favorite way to consume fruits. It's also a way for me to be creative. At the end of last year I started reading about green smoothies, but, perhaps due to habit, I didn't incorporate any "greens" into my smoothies. Then recently I came across some cool recipes on Pinterest that gave me some inspiration to create one og my own.
How to make a green Smoothie: TOOLS & Ingredients

There are various options in regards to measurements from the recipes you find online, some say half cups, others 1 cup, others again 2 cups.
I say: DEPENDS ON YOUR BLENDER and HOW MANY PEOPLE YOU ARE MAKING IT FOR.
For years, I have been using the Kenwood Smoothie 2Go blender which for me is ideal, as I am the only one drinking smoothies in my house. It comes with two, 0.5 litre travel mugs with no-spill, drink-through lids, so you can make your smoothie and stick it in the fridge if you like or take it to work.
The blender you are using determines the amount of ingredients; in mine, I use as standard measure, 1 fruit each and half cup to 1 cup of liquids, depending on the recipe, but essentially, a green smoothie recipe, should follow the following formula:

The DOOZY
I'm pretty sure that the recipe I made today is unique, seen the quirky mix I made so I took it upon myself to name it: THE DOOZY, in honor of this website, of course!
To make 0.5 litre of smoothie I used:
To make 0.5 litre of smoothie I used:
165 ml (half a can) of coconut water
1/3 of a tin of coconut milk. NOTE: Make sure you buy pure products and not diluted with water or worse added with artificial agents. 1/2 Cup of Molokhia NOTE : I actually bought this thinking it was spinach. It's very similar to it in flavor, but Molokhia, which is popular in Middle Eastern cuisine, comes already blended when you defrost it which is perfect for smoothies. . |
Molokhia is rich in in betacarotene, iron, calcium, Vitamin C and more than 32 vitamin and minerals and trace elements. It also has a potent antioxidant activity with a significant amount of α-tocopherol a type of Vitamin E,
