Last weekend, we attended the ACGHK 2016 which is the Hong Kong anime, comics and games convention and it was an interesting experience that we are thrilled to share with you.

The ACGHK 2016 was held at the Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai on Hong Kong island. It was our first time attending an event of this kind in Asia after having attended several comic cons in London, New York and Dubai however, it was interesting to see how the niche is presented in Asia.
The main thing that we noticed was that whilst in other countries the event is targeted to the comic books/anime/gaming community, it also targets the film/TV one, by hosting panels with guests of popular TV shows, so if you aren't so much an anime fan but you watch Games of Thrones, you would be interested in attending the con. In Hong Kong, instead, it seemed very much targeted exclusively to the communities of gaming, anime and comics, and of these of course Asian productions rather than westerns.
Lots of space was given to miniature models for which the Asian market is both a top producer as well as buyer. We saw some amazing work. The big boys of gaming, Playstation and XBox were present with an array of new and upcoming games including Fifa 2017, King of Fighters XIV, Street Fighter V and many others.

Cosplayers were out in hordes as we expected and we must say we loved seeing them.
As we walked through the crowds we overheard a man saying how he couldn't conceive that grown people would dress up as characters, and we say it was rather sad that he couldn't.
Whilst you'll hardly find us personally dressing up in cosplay's costumes, we admire all that do it, for the meticulous efforts they put in constructing (often by hand and piece by piece) the costumes.
In other words, cosplay is a representation of passion, dedication and effort.
Something else that really made an impact on us at this convention was how boldly Virtual Reality has landed. Was only earlier this year that the likes of Oculus Rift,

PlayStation VR and the HTC Vive took the medium mainstream, and already we see implementations that dropped our jaws.
There were at least 7 different installations not only with VR games, but that were real rides, the kind you could have at home or find in an arcade.
The message was loud and clear VR is not a trend, it's the future, virtual reality is the new reality, at least in gaming and entertainment. We are very excited to see how VR will develop in the coming years and what new experiences will be added to the Gaming industry, in the mean time, please enjoy a quick video we shot of our visit to ACGHK 2016.
